Overview

vtalent is partnering with one of our clients based in Austin, TX, who is seeking a Director of Finance to join their team.  This client is leading the way in clean, renewable energy.  The ideal candidate MUST have previous utility industry experience and an active CPA license.  This role offers outstanding benefits and relocation assistant is available.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage daily operations of the finance and treasury functions including invoicing, payments, capital requirements, cash management and liquidity needs of the Company
  • Manage the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements which includes:
    • Analyzing monthly, quarterly, year to date financial performance against key business metrics, prior periods, and plan and document pertinent financial highlights
    • Reviewing and analyzing changes in monthly financial & liquidity forecasts
    • Preparing reporting packages and other financial templates for shareholders
  • Prepare financial forecasts and provide strategic advice on optimizing value to senior management and shareholders
  • Ensures compliance with all company, regulatory, State, federal and GAAP requirements through the development, implementation, and maintenance of controls and policies
  • Support regulatory initiatives including rate setting proceedings, CCNs, etc.
  • Support preparation of annual audit and tax requirements
    • Prepare statutory financial statements
    • Prepare supporting work papers for and review statutory tax filing
    • Provide recommendations for procedural improvements
  • Prepare and present financial statements, budgets, liquidity forecasts, equity valuations as well as other reports and analyses to the General Manager, shareholders, lenders and regulators
  • Develop and manage strategic financing initiatives (refinancings, working capital facilities, up-financings, etc.) including interaction with banks, analysis of various financing options
  • Prepare and present annual update to rating agencies and provide ad hoc updates as necessary
  • Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives and capital project additions
  • Support needs of shareholders and Finance Committee
    • Manage annual fair value process including evaluating and selecting key assumptions, ensuring completeness and accuracy of fair value model, understand and analyze drivers of value / investment returns against prior year
  • Periodically review and assess appropriateness of accounting policies & practices, perform technical research, and assist shareholders, as needed, with development of position papers / accounting memos
  • Manage all financial aspects of the HR function including payroll and benefits
  • Provide coaching and guidance to staff including provide real time, value added feedback

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP
  • Ability to manage multiple work streams for shareholders in different geographic locations including ability to respond quickly to high priority requests; open minded and flexibility in adapting to change
  • Ability to communicate and deploy financial concepts within a non-financial peer-group
  • Analytical thinking; analyzing and synthesizing information to understand issues, identify options, and support sound decision making
  • Time management/priority setting; exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase efficiency or productivity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing materials for senior management
  • Strong attention to detail; working in a consistent and thorough manner
  • Background of in-depth financial analysis and management reporting
  • Advance knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint

 

Required Experience

  • Must have at least 10 years of work experience in a managerial role with experience in the Electric Utility or other rate regulated industry
  • Experience managing third party service providers such as rating agencies, banks, and accounting firms
  • Experience with treasury and/or financing activities
  • A degree in accounting and/or finance from an accredited university.
  • CPA designation is required
