vtalent is partnering with one of our clients based in North Austin, TX, who is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their team.  The person best qualified for this position will be detail oriented, organized, self-directed, accountable, and responsible for follow-up items.  Also, the ideal candidate must possess strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently.  Strong communication skills are required to effectively work with team members and third parties in this fast moving environment.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


  • Manage two accountants in performance of monthly duties including accounts payable, banking, accounts receivable, collections, payroll, inventory, and monthly reconciliations of all accounts. Must be able to step in and perform any and all duties in absence of staff or when workload dictates.
  • Manage the annual audit process including all earnings calculations, schedules, and adjustments.
  • Review and assist with inventory management.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, manage journal entries and timely review of monthly account reconciliations. Ensure all intercompany activity is reconciled monthly.
  • Prepare monthly commissions for sales and executive staff.
  • Oversee preparation of the monthly comprehensive funds analysis.
  • Ensure monthly close is accomplished within allowed deadlines.
  • Oversee trust accounts and activity related to company reinsurance agreements.
  • Responsible for oversight of cash balances for multiple entities to ensure cash is available to satisfy obligations and pay customer claims.
  • Perform monthly analysis of budget to actual variances, financial trends, KPIs and forecasts.
  • Assist in evaluation and implementation of internal controls over assets and disbursements.
  • Manage appropriate expense authorizations, fixed assets and inventory.
  • Oversee filings of all state and federal returns prepared by our outside CPAs and ensure estimated payments are paid timely.
  • Participate in a variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • CPA certification
  • Three to five years hands-on experience
  • Two or more years managing a small accounting staff
  • Must have strong QuickBooks experience, preferably Enterprise
  • Must have strong Excel skills including pivot tables and lookups
  • Great problem solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to perform within tight deadlines
